There’s a abstractness to the merging of imagery in this polyptych. A mounted policeman looks like a ghostly shaped Buddha/ something spiritual/haunting? The car and the architecture looks film-noir, prison-like, underground and oppressive?
Following an incident in the line of duty in Woolloomooloo in 2004 (one of his hind legs slipped on the gutter) sadly Police Horse STAR sadly had to be put down. Grief is love and with grief come tears.
“Euthanasia” itself comes from the Greek words “eu” (good) and “thanatos” (death).
“Agape” love is given whether or not it’s returned. Buddhist tradition has it as the central foundation of loving kindness for all mankind. The horse STARs’ love is without self-benefit, like the love of God sending his son to die on the cross for humanity’s sins.
