Call to Action – Bridget White
My art to date has represented what is known to me; a portrait of a friend or a response to what I see. This piece is an exploration of what was unknown to me; it called me to act and to consider our roles in the deprivation of justice for refugees. The subject could be any one of us, their eyes beseeching the viewer to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God. I used colour to express the complexities of humanity and drew upon Micah’s rich imagery; the sword that nations will lay down and the fig tree under which no one shall be afraid. This painting reflects the political nature of his message, calling us out for our broken covenant with God, but not condemning without hope.
