Clothe – Susan Roux

The notion that Creation brought order to chaos, Micah’s
rhetorical question allows light to penetrate darkness.
I enact this theme by repetitively distressing or wounding paper.
Each wound allows light to penetrate boundaries, each stitch becomes
a site of distress and of healing – a suture between
corrosion, corruption and ephemeral realms of infinitude and
potentiality.Using an image of a woman escaping a concentration camp I shift from passive position by transforming an historical place trauma into an object of embodied justice. As literal membrane between darkness & light, paper becomes a fragile, permeable skin between tumult and ins, and stitching an ongoing act of giving.
