Danny The Patron Saint of the Disabled – rose wilson

23 February, 2020

I have depicted my nephew in the guise of Saint Sebastian, with the gaping mouth & eyes looking upwards, usually symbolising martyrdom in baroque paintings, also using the colour pallet & technique of that era. Due to complications at birth he was born with cerebral palsy. Now 29, Dan has completed his studies, and has an full life with the help of carers & his beautiful family. Together they have endured much, the arrows represents the pain and anguish he and his mother have suffered since he was a small child. Not just physically, but the relentless whispers, the vicious and cruel words, yet there is no malice, & have never uttered a bad word, and if Danny could talk neither would he.
