If I don’t look to Him, I am lost. – Emma Liu
This work was created out of anguish, as a patient at St John of God Hospital, Burwood. PTSD and intense anxiety were threatening to overwhelm me. Expressing myself in the art therapy room was one of the few things which gave me respite. As I became absorbed in the art-making, my heart softened and (after a long and stubborn silence), I was able to surrender to God in prayer. Both the subject matter and the experiential process of this work express the chaos, suffering and despair of wilfully refusing to walk with God. It is not easy to do justice, to love kindness (and I sorely lack humility!) but it is God who enables these things. If I don’t look to Him, I am lost!
