Imago – Susan Carameli

The miraculous transformation of the moth, as part of its life cycle, mirrors our own spiritual evolution. Before transformation the larva consumes voraciously just as we absorb and develop our beliefs. A time comes when it spins the cocoon, its vessel of transformation, as the old form dissolves. Histolysis is the metamorphosis into a moth. The pupa resurrects into an imago, just as Christians will resurrect.
Sections of the pages of The Book of Mark have been tea dyed and sewn into some bags of the wing tips. These are from The Crucifixion and Resurrection.
Between the layers of tissue paper in the cocoon are sections of pages from The Book of Exodus and Ezekiel, From the Old Testament.
