Intertwined – Lauren Downton

This artwork reflects the strength and fragility of mankind, in the vulnerability of thread and its ability to unravel yet hold together. Thread was sewn onto temporary water-soluble fabric, which dissolves, leaving the exposed thread. This is the transient nature of humanity juxtaposed with God’s infinite power and goodness. In our weakness He is strong. Jesus is the vine and we grow as humble branches. The artwork features Mother Teresa who died-to-self in order to care for the dying. Her semi-transparent robe symbolises her humble mantle – to walk in love, show kindness, and administer justice. Justice is selfless love in action. Here humility, mortality, love and justice are intertwined.
