Micah 6:8 – An exegesis – Jenny Hanslow

24 February, 2020

Drawing on imagery from Micah 1:8-16 and themes of oppression, this chained figure signifies the Israelites, Micah, humanity and perhaps you. The cage-like chains, shaped as mountains, inform of the literary context – God’s call on the mountains to testify against humanity. In view of inevitable condemnation, this work aims to provoke the questions, “What can we do in the face judgement? What does God require?” The answer is in imperatives – so too, this artwork demands action! Please see your call to act in justice and mercy as an image bearer of the God you walk with. If you do this, you will indeed find freedom and reconciliation on the path marked out by the promised Shepherd of Micah.
