Seven Women of Mercy – Jeanette Giroud

23 February, 2020

The Seven Women of Mercy works are constructed using hand embroidery, beading and goldwork on silk attached to felt. This is a perfect medium to honour women who have made a significant contribution to history, living out acts of mercy and kindness through the work of their hands. The women chosen are Mother Teresa, Mary McKillop, Jacinda Ardern, Joan of Arc, Edith Cowan, Corrie Ten Boom and Florence Nightingale. Women throughout history have woven their dreams into their embroideries. As I stitched, I reflected on the acts of kindness demonstrated by each of these great women. ‘Memory is the seamstress. Memory runs her needle in and out, up and down, hither and thither.’ Virginia Wolff
