The Admiral and the Bishop – Celia Moriarty

The temporal and the spiritual. Lifelong friends walk toward the interment of one’s mother. Good men, intelligent and kind. Distinguished in their seemingly opposing professions, but both are callings of service.

Today support and care mark their lifelong friendship. They honour a formidable woman who faced life’s challenges with grace, charm and wit. She made us laugh and knitted Fair Isle vests to keep us warm. From such women are created such good men.

Painting this scene allows me to reflect on the times we shared and deal with the parting of my friend. It also connects me to the next generation. So art connects the narrative of the past through now, to the future.
