My work in charcoal and chalk was inspired by the landscape of the Pilbara in Western Australia. It also had its origins in the landscapes and architecture of Europe. The basis of the work was flying over the Northwest area of W.A and taking a number of photographs and these led to numerous drawings. The work has many components with marks that were made showing movement and pathways. Some of the marks are in relief showing small islands with texture and tone. The vertical symbols showing blades of grass which crossed over each other in places were the catalyst for the construction in wood of the cross shape.
