To coincide with the final weeks of the Mandorla Art Award entries, Mandorla is presenting a FREE ONLINE WORKSHOP on PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR ARTWORK and WRITING ARTIST STATEMENTS & BIOGRAPHIES. This workshop is designed to strengthen these two key elements for submitting a quality art award entry.
Bo Wong – Photographing your Artwork
Bo is a professional photographer with over 15 years experience documenting artwork, exhibitions and visual artists. She photographs some of Australia’s most celebrated public and private art collections and shares her skillset with creatives through workshops for arts organisations, artists and on multi-day professional development retreats. In this special 40 minute illustrated lecture Bo will cover easy to implement tips, tricks and tools to get the best shots of your 2D and 3D artwork with your phone or camera. www.bowong.com.au
Erin Coates – Writing Artist Texts
Erin is a professional visual artist based in Boorloo Perth. Her work is held in major state collections and she recently participated in the Biennale of Sydney and held a solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Erin is the current Curator for Mandorla and has over 15 years’ experience working in the arts as a producer, writer, curator and selection panellist. In this session she will provide helpful insights into what makes a strong artist statement and biography. www.erincoates.net
Dr Angela McCarthy – Introduction & Facilitator
Angela is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame Australia with a background in art and theology. She is the current Chair of Mandorla.

ABOUT THE SESSION & MANDORLA
All registered participants will be provided with a link to join the Zoom workshop in the week prior to the event. We request that participants log in at least 5 mins prior, as we will begin at 11am sharp. Please ensure your mic remains on mute throughout the session. We will not be running Q&As during the workshop, however, any specific questions related to submitting an entry to the 2024 Mandorla Art Award can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
This session is presented by Mandorla as a free workshop and is open to all artists within Australia. The information provided is relevant to artists wishing to enter art awards across any medium and career stage. We encourage participants to enter the 2024 Mandorla Art Award and we are accepting submissions until Wed 13 March 2024 via the online entry portal. Entries will be assessed by an independent selection panel. The prize pool for 2024 is over $50,000 and includes a new Artist Residency Prize.

2023 New Norcia Theme Retreat

Following on from the popular inaugural event last year, Mandorla will again partner with New Norcia to provide a space of reflection and inspiration. Our Theme Retreat will be held in the beautiful surroundings of New Norcia, located approximately 1.5 hours’ drive North East of Boorloo Perth. The retreat provides an opportunity for artists to contemplate and discuss the 2024 Mandorla Art Award theme.
Join committee members Dr Angela McCarthy, Emily Bowser, Rev John Ward and Artist Rachelle Dusting for a reflective, practical and spiritual time.
- Date: 6pm (check in from 3pm) Friday 10 Nov until 11am Sun 12 Nov, 2023
- Cost: $300 – includes meals and two nights’ accommodation
- Program: The retreat offers structured talks, workshops and activities as well as time for personal reflection. On arrival, you will experience New Norcia hospitality with a group meal and chance to meet everyone. On Saturday there will be workshops on art and spirituality, and you will have the opportunity to explore the 2024 Mandorla Art Award theme. The retreat will finish on Sunday morning with reflection and prayer as you explore the theme in your own art practice. Artists are encouraged to bring own materials and a journal to record ideas.
Linen, meals and morning tea will be provided each day.
